CHIOGGIA
Need for a redevelopment that aims to completely refound an identity for the port’s spaces. The redevelopment is part of the recent project Chioggia: cruise destination conceived by the Port System Authority of the Adriatic Sea.
The redevelopment will take place through the definition of a Land Gate and a Sea Gate: by designing the Land Gate with a series of landscape interventions aimed at the constitution of a true longitudinal landscape gate of access to the city, a green channel that will lead to the sequence of new notable points of the new ‘inhabited’ bridges of access to the city; by designing the Sea Gate as a punctual landscape gate at the tangency with the fabric of the historic city between the two bridges, introducing then to the Isola dei Saloni that will qualify itself as a true Sea Gate of the city.
It is strategic to consider the theme of the street as a complex artefact, an element capable of providing narrative continuity and a recognisable formal structure even to a fragmented settlement.
VENICE
Starting from the character of the place of facilities, which has given it a scale “other” than the consolidated fabric of the historic city, it will be strategic:
for S. Basilio to mediate the passage of scale, defining an articulated and welcoming system of open spaces in continuity with a different permeability of the buildings towards the city behind;
for S. Marta improve the permeability towards the residential neighbourhoods behind, rethink the current parking area in relation to the original nature of the beach by improving the accessibility from the water to the area and the mooring devices;
for S.Andrea rethink the possibility of consolidating a built edge towards the Scomenzera canal in analogy to European examples of the last decades with a residential building system that here can be reached both from the water and through pedestrian and vehicular paths. Defining the new station for local trains also through the construction of a new bridge over the Scomenzera canal for access towards the historic city and then imagining even below the existing viaducts towards the north the recovery of abandoned spaces to introduce functions of a collective nature both cultural and commercial and thus defining a new portion of the city intermediate between the historic centre and the world of infrastructures and equipment.
